For OmniDrones Academy, one of the largest drone trainers in the Netherlands, SYS built A training platform with verification system. Participants of a drone training course can only take the exam and obtain a certified drone flying licence after verification. A cool challenge for SYS which is now growing into a European success.
Egbert Swierts is owner and founder of OmniDrones Academy, the (online) training centre for drone pilots in the northern Netherlands. OmniDrones is one of the three major drone trainers in the Netherlands. They were the first to start offering online training courses. In the various drone training courses, you will learn all about EASA Regulations, Aviation Regulations and GPS. All the skills and disciplines to certified drone pilot to be.
Certified drone training courses
Workshops, training and SPECIFIC courses are conducted from the headquarters in Assen. Drone exams were previously conducted in class, but during lockdowns this became a problem. One of the biggest challenges was to be able to take these kinds of exams online as well. You need a well-secured system for that.
Shifting from National to International regulations, they are allowed to offer drone training in all European member states. This requires the website to keep running smoothly.
Before Egbert came to SYS, he had a solution programmed by an external programmer. As soon as there is an update in the whole system and one thing doesn't work, everything can fall apart like a house of cards. "That is incredibly frustrating If you get messages on Friday afternoon from customers saying: the system is down, I can't pay or my drone proof is not coming in." Even if you are then at a birthday party, you are still going to try to help those customers as soon as possible.
Online drone exam with verification system
Before you can take a drone exam, you need to verify yourself online. You do this by holding an ID next to your face and taking a picture of it. Only after you are verified can you proceed with the exam. If you pass the exam, a notification will automatically go to the RDW and receive your flying licence or drone certificate immediately.
Verifying people are a complex process, but with SYS, OmniDrones certainly wanted to take on this challenge. An exciting pairing to keep everything working.
OmniDrones Academy: drone training platform
The new online learning environment is easy to customise In terms of style and to be filled in with all teaching materials. "The system is sound. It is well thought out, specifically for trainers. But especially the response time when we have something. I really like that that's short." OmniDrones also finds the database incredibly valuable with previously proven solutions.
For clients, the website platform is also very nice. Participants get automatic access to the online learning environment where they can view all modules without restriction, take practice exams and the final exam to obtain the drone certificate.
Building a multilingual training platform
Now that the Dutch OmniDrones Academy is running successfully, they want to make it a European success. A whole new challenge together with SYS: building a multilingual platform. By offering learning materials in other languages, they can help different customers in the best possible way. Currently, the website is already available in English and German.
