A1/A3 DRONE LICENCE

What are you allowed to do with the A1/A3 drone licence:

  • Low-risk, start-up pilot
  • Up to 900 grams (A1) up to 25 kg (A3)
  • Occasional flying over people (A1)
  • Flying 150 metres away from people (A3)
  • Flying within sight, up to 120 metres high

A2 DRONE LICENCE

What can you do with the A2 drone licence:

  • Higher risk, entry-level professional
  • Flying drones up to 4kg
  • Keep at least 30 metres away from people
  • At least 5 metres distance in low-speed modes
  • Flying with beautiful drones like the Matrice 30, for example.

Online training
The online learning platform is accessible immediately after your order. After completing the training, you have the option of taking unlimited practice exams. Ready for the real exam? The A1/A3 exam is already ready and can be taken at any time.

Online examination

The BASIC drone licence requires one online exam, with free unlimited retakes. The average duration of the drone training course including exam takes one day. Upon successful completion of the training course, you will receive a unique link to the RDW from us after which you can immediately download your drone licence, which is an official EASA certificate. Note: This registration costs €10 and must be paid at the RDW. With the EU drone certificate in your pocket and a drone registered with the RDW, you are ready to fly!

If you are a non-Dutch resident, the drone licence will be mailed to you from the RDW. You pay the cost of €10 while ordering this course. We then remit this €10 to the RDW.

Why do you need a drone licence?

The BASIC drone licence consists of the official A1/A3 EASA certificates. These certificates allow you to fly throughout the European Union + Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. With this basic EASA drone certificate, you are a certified drone pilot for five years and may:

Thousands drone pilots before you

Good clear course which can be taken online 24/7 as well as the practice exams, also the final exam can be taken online. After several practice exams, I took the final exam and passed it the first time I took the open a1/A3 course. I am very satisfied with Omnidrones Academy ordering and making the course online works very well and easy.

Good course that is perfectly doable. Easy to read and learn and divided into compact 'bites' so you don't lose everything immediately if you leave it overnight. Fine learning method in other words! The mock exams are also valuable. Have a DJI Mini 3, under 250gr, so A1/A3 and A2 are not a requirement. But still good to have this knowledge on board, I'm happy with it, highly recommended!

The lesson material and mock exams match well with the questions in the official exam. Would actually recommend it to every drone pilot even if you fly a drone that does not require it. The theory is easy to do, even for older people. Passed in 1 go with 92.5% of the questions correct (minimum required is 75%)

Frequently asked questions

General

The drone licence is valid for 5 years, after which you have to take another exam. 

In the Netherlands, the A1/A3 and A2 drone pilot licences require a minimum age of 16.

 

If you are under 16 years old, you can also get the A1/A3 and A2 drone flying licence, however, you will only be allowed to fly under the supervision of someone who is 16 or older and has their A1/A3 and A2 drone flying licence.   

Other age limits may apply in other countries.

Yes, OmniDrones is a recognised examination institute, accredited by ILENT. 

Basic course (A1/A3)

After you place your order, you will have immediate access to our learning environment. There you will find learning materials, practice exams and the exam. 

After you have taken the lessons and completed some practice exams, it is time for the real exam. 

This consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, to pass the exam you need to score 75% or higher. 

Once you have passed the exam, you will receive an email from us containing a link from the RDW to apply for your drone licence. 

Yes, you can take the exam at any time, it will be ready for you immediately after your order!

In A1/A3, you are allowed to fly a drone up to 25 kilograms.

Category A1 

This category includes drones with a C label C0 (up to 250 grams) or C1 (up to 900 grams).  

Category A3

Category A3 has the same risk qualification as subcategory A1 (a low risk profile). In this category, you may fly drones with C-label C2 (up to 4 kilograms), C3/C4 (up to 25 kilograms). Current drones without a C label from 2 kilograms to 25 kilograms also fall into this category.
